3. Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen

Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen was founded in 1950 by Dave and Peggy Dych. The couple was traveling to California to seek their fortune, and stopped for a visit in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The young couple immediately recognized the potential of Gatlinburg as a growing motor tourist destination. They envisioned a visually entertaining main street business, serving the tourists with wholesome homemade candies. The Candy was made in full view of the passing motor and walking public. Candy makers, dressed in white uniforms, stirred large copper kettles while feeding taffy into hypnotic machines. This drew a crowd on the patio outside the windows where seats were installed. The candy was displayed behind glass cases and sold in any quantity requested. Gatlinburg has flourished as a motor tourist destination and Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen is still serving the tourists wholesome homemade candy in the original way – one piece or a box full.

4. Mountain Mall

The Gatlinburg Mountain Mall, Gatlinburg’s premier indoor shopping experience, is unlike any other shopping mall, Features a vast variety of shops each with a unique theme. Home-made candy, food, crafts, hand-made jewelry, custom-blended tobacco products, pipes, music, movies,  leather goods, hot sauces, books, magic tricks, quilts, dolls, sports collectibles, toys, original artwork and even outfits for man’s best friend – These are just a few of the items you’ll find within our mountain-themed shopping center.  We challenge you to give us a visit and not find something of interest to you and to each and every member of your family.

Every detail of the shopping center has a mountain theme from cedar walls to the whiskey barrel trash cans (which are the same barrels used to make Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whisky.) And while you leisurely peruse the hallways of the Mountain Mall, you will hear Appalachian mountain music recorded by local musicians. Around our two indoor water fountains (one of which is over 30 feet tall!) you’ll find authentic mountain folk paraphernalia including millstones, a moonshine still, and a full-size bear trap.
